Open Burn Ban - City & Borough of Juneau

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: OPEN BURN BAN CITY & BOROUGH OF JUNEAU ISSUED: Saturday May 3, 2014 at 4:15 PM ISSUED BY: Fire Marshal Daniel M. Jager Due to the Red Flag Warning issued by the National Weather Service, there is an OPEN BURNING BAN for the entire City & Borough of Juneau. This means that there are no open burning activities allowed within the City & Borough of Juneau which includes, but is not limited to the following: cooking or camp fires, burning of trees or wood debris regardless of size, charcoal or wood fired barbeques, bonfires or warming fires regardless if there is a valid open burn permit on site or not. Propane type barbeques are allowed because they do not create sparks or hot embers, but extreme caution should be used. Also, extreme caution should be exercised with smoking materials. The relative humidity is approximately 17% which makes any open burning activities extremely dangerous and may rapidly spread. There are mild winds with higher gusts forecast as well. This open burning ban is effective until 4PM Tuesday May 6, 2014 and will be evaluated at that time and may be extended. Capital City Fire Rescue has already responded to fires that occurred due to the dry weather conditions. This open burning ban is to try to avoid significant fires from occurring or being out of control.
