10-8-2013 Residential Structure fire - 17421 Christine Avenue

On Tuesday, October 8, 2013, at approximately 3 PM, Capital City Fire Rescue was dispatched to 17421 Christine Avenue for a residential structure fire. The fire was called in by a tenant who arrived to find smoke billowing out of the home. Three engines, a ladder truck, an ambulance and 15 personnel responded. An additional half dozen responders staffed stations to handle additional calls for the city. Fire personnel arrived to find a single family dwelling with only smoke showing. The area where the fire occured was in a storage space on the ground floor. Fire personnel removed smoldering debris from this area. The fire was mostly exinguished due to a water line in close proximity of the fire bursting and extinguishing the flame. There were no injuries reported. The home was insured and the tenant had renter insurance. The cause of this fire was determiend to be electrical heat trace that was used on the domestic water line underneath the structure. The heat trace was plugged in at the time of the fire. Damage is extimated at approximately $40,000.00 due to burning and smoke damage throughout the structure.
