9-26-2013 Residential Structure Fire 2570 Meadow Lane

On Thursday, September 26, 2013 at approximately 6:12 AM, Capital City Fire Rescue responded to 2570 Meadow Lane for a residential structure fire. Engine 31, Truck 32, Engine 41, Rescue 1, Medic 5 and volunteers responded. Upon arrival, fire personnel reported heavy smoke and fire showing through the roof of the single family home. Assistant Chief Ed Quinto, JPD Officer Joe Bankowski and a neighbor Wes Parker all went to the home and woke the sleeping residents up and evacuated them from the burning structure. The smoke alarms were present but did not activate due to the fire being located above in the attic space. All three occupants were transported to Bartlett Regional Hospital for medical evaluation and are expected to recover from the incident. After the fire was extinguished, a fire investigation was conducted by the fire marshals. The area where the fire started was in the attic space where work was being done to replace the roof. A halogen work light was found and believed to be the heat source which may have made contact with the plastic covering and tar from the old roof. Damage is estimated to be at least $50,000.00 and the property was insured. Submitted by: Fire Marshal Daniel Jager.
