Web Design AccessibilityThe City and Borough of Juneau has redesigned its website to incorporate Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). This change makes our pages more accessible to "text-based" readers and screen readers. Using style sheets, we can offer a logically-arranged, text-based alternative for our users without the necessity of a separate "text only" site. For more information on Cascading Style Sheets and their advantages, click [here]. Accessibility Tools for Adobe PDF DocumentsA version of the Adobe Reader download page that is accessible to screen readers is available. To go to the accessible Acrobat Reader download page, click [here]. Adobe has developed a number of ways to make PDF files accessible to those using screen readers. For more information, please visit Adobe's Accessibility Tools page [here]. If you are unable to use these accessibility tools for any reason and need a text-only copy of a PDF file posted on this site, please send an email to the webmaster (click [here] for email form) including an exact description of the file you need and the URL of the page that links to it. We will return a text-only copy of the file to you by email as soon as possible. These accessibility tools will only function for PDFs created directly from electronic files. PDFs created by scanning a printed document cannot be converted to text. Access to scanned PDFs is accomplished by printing the document and then using a document reader such as Arkenstone or Kurzweil to read the document aloud. An Arkenstone reader is available at the Juneau Public Library (downtown branch). |
